Admission Requirements

Admission is available to students with an appropriate degree or equivalent from an approved university in relevant fields such as building, construction management, construction economics, civil engineering, mining engineering, architecture, quantity surveying, property development, real estate, or equivalent, with grades of credit average or above. Professional experience in the construction industry of at least 12 months at a management level is essential in admission selection.

Program Structure

To qualify for a degree in Master of Construction Project Management in Professional Practice students will be required to complete a program of study totalling 72 UOC of which 48 UOC are the course requirements of the Master of Construction Project Management program (8123). The additional 24 UOC comprise two core courses:

BENV7020 Research Seminar (6 UOC)
CONS0020 Research Project (18 UOC)

*In exceptional cases, where a student can demonstrate his/her research skills with evidence, the Research Methods Course may be exempted and substitued with an elective course.

In conventional mode the Master in Professional Practice degree requires three full-time semesters of study.

Academic Rules

Advanced Standing

Some advanced Standing may be granted for completed or partially completed postgraduate awards from UNSW or from another institution. When considering the granting of advanced standing on the basis of previous postgraduate study at another institution, the program authority will take into account the quality of the institution and the quality, level and content of postgraduate courses previously undertaken.

Upgrading/Articulation

Students who have completed the Master of Construction Project Management program (8123) with grades of credit average or above may apply to upgrade to the Master of Construction Project Management in Professional Practice program (8124) with full credits for the completed courses. Upgrading with full credit is permitted only when the Master of Construction Project Management program has been completed but not awarded.
