The Master of Economics program provides advanced training in theoretical and applied aspects of modern economics and econometrics.

There is no mid-year intake for the Master of Economics program. Applicants can only apply to commence Master of Economics studies for Session 1.

Entry to this program requires an academic background in economics.

A graduate of the MEc is prepared for a career as a professional economist with advanced technical skills, or for further studies in economics or related fields in Australia and abroad.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

On successful completion of the MEc program, students will have the ability to:
  • understand and apply complex economic theories and models to interpret specific economic developments and problems
  • apply critical thinking skills in order to modify appropriate theories and models to interpret and solve problems
  • use quantitative techniques to interpret economic problems and make economic and business decisions
  • present complex issues in coherent written statements and oral presentations
  • use their economic knowledge and quantitative skills to explain the global economic effects of specific economic problems and developments and how that relates to the Australian economy

Program Structure

The Master in Economics degree comprises 48 units of credit (UOC). Students are required to complete four core courses and four elective courses.
