The Master of Professional Accounting is designed for graduates with no or limited exposure to the study of accounting. The Master of Professional Accounting program provides an introduction to business with a focus on accounting and enables you to obtain recognition by the professional accounting bodies in Australia: CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants. Firms often seek employees who have met professional requirements as it means a range of essential business skills have been acquired.

Note: As the degree is primarily aimed at graduates with non-accounting studies, if you do not have an undergraduate major in accounting from an Australian university you are not advised to enrol in this degree.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

On successful completion of the Master of Professional Accounting, you will have the ability to:
  • understand and apply the main principles and techniques of the accounting discipline
  • demonstrate an understanding of relevant knowledge in related business fields
  • apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to accounting problems or issues
  • communicate ideas and information logically and concisely in written and oral formats
  • reflect on the effectiveness of group learning process
  • demonstrate an awareness of professional responsibilities including legal requirements, professional codes of conduct, and society’s expectations

Program Structure

The Master of Professional Accounting comprises 72 UOC (13 core courses).
Students undertaking the program should take care to take the courses in an appropriate sequence. For instance, ACCT5930 and TABL5512 should be taken early in the program as they provide the foundation for other courses.

Academic Rules

The Program is 1.5 years full time study or 3 years part-time study.

To complete the program you are required to:
  1. Accept and enrol into the courses for the Master of Professional Accounting and complete 72 UOC
  2. Complete 13 core courses
