Program Description
The Graduate Certificate in Economics is offered as an on-campus program. Students are required to complete 4 courses (24 Units of Credit) comprised of one course each from 3 core areas and one elective course. All courses are 6 Units of Credit.
Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Economics program, students will have demonstrated:
- the cognitive skills and capacity to analyse economic problems using advanced modern tools used in economics;
- the ability to synthesize mathematical economic analysis and provide economic intuition for the results;
- the capacity to use econometric estimation techniques to analyse empirical problems.

Academic Rules
Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Economics (24 UOC) with an average mark of 70% will be eligible to enrol in the Masters of Economics (48 UOC).

Program Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is:
- a bachelor degree from an Australian university or equivalent overseas institution in economics (BEc); OR
- other advanced cognate disciplines with required technical skills (e.g. mathematics, finance, or statistics) with WAM of 65%, plus a compulsory component of intermediate level microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics as well as competency in mathematical and statistical methods; OR
- equivalent as determined by the Australian School of Business.
Entrance to the program also requires that applicants should:
- have achieved an average of 65% or higher in the last two years of economics and quantitative methods courses in their bachelor degree; and
- satisfy the University's English Language requirement.
Applicants without an adequate background may be required to undertake some preliminary coursework in intermediate microeconomics, macroeconomics as well as econometrics.
