The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning offers student a half-year entry level postgraduate study program in financial planning. The curriculum of the Graduate Certificate enables students to develop knowledge and skills in financial markets, financial products, financial planning, taxation law and strategies which are essential for personal financial management. The curriculum also forms part of the syllabus of the higher programs in financial planning.

Who should study this program?

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning is designed for students who want to develop or upgrade their investment, financial planning, taxation knowledge and skills for a career in personal financial advisory but do not currently hold a Bachelors degree yet have work experience in the finance industry or Bachelors graduates who want a short program in personal financial planning. See Entry requirements for details. This program is also an exit option for students in higher programs in financial planning.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

This short program offers a challenging learning environment for students wanting to study financial planning and taxation and/or gain entry to an integrated program of financial planning, investment, and taxation and professional accreditations. The lecturers are at the forefront of research in finance and investment, sharing their recent findings with students in lectures and tutorials. Courses are offered in a combination of distance, online and classroom mode which facilitate off-campus access and time management. This program, subject to performance conditions, may be articulated to the Master of Financial Planning.

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning consists of 24 units of credit (4 compulsory courses).

Exemptions/transfer of credits

Transfer credit may be awarded to students with prior incomplete postgraduate studies.

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to start gaining the qualifications to tap into these opportunities.

Entry requirements

Applicants require A) a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification), as determined by the Australian School of Business, AND, a minimum of two years full-time relevant work experience, or B) a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience, as determined by the Australian School of Business, AND, demonstrated completion of professional courses or studies. Meeting the minimum criterion in B) does not guarantee admission. An application should include as supporting documentation: 1. Detailed resume (outlining relevant competencies and achievements); and 2, evidence of other academic and professional qualifications.
