The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications offers a two year Masters Degree program. The program comprises an Electrical plan ELECAS8621 or Telecommunications plan TELEA8621, leading to a Master of Electrical Engineering or a Master of Telecommunications. Flexibility and choice are maintained throughout the two year program by providing many elective courses. It serves as an entry point for students to move into the engineering profession.
It is anticipated that the two year Masters program would be professionally accredited by Engineers Australia. This degree is offered in the following specialisations (plans):
Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes The proposed Masters Degree program is designed to enable students to fulfil a number of needs including:
To qualify for the Masters Degree, students should successfully complete courses that total at least 96 UOC including
In addition, a further requirement for the program is the completion of 60 days of Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications related industrial experience.
Please also refer to the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications for more information about the program structure. www.eet.unsw.edu.au/progrms/pdf/new_programs/8621.pdf (a) Entry Requirements
Entry to the Masters Degree program is for local and international graduates from 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognized institution with a minimum overall average of 65% or equivalent. A pathway for entry into the program for graduates from both 4-year Bachelor of Engineering degrees in other disciplines, and 3-year Bachelor of Science degrees, exists via the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) program in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications, where advanced standing (to a maximum of 2 years) may be granted. (b) Exemptions and course substitutions No course exemptions will be allowed in this program. At the discretion of the program authority, students with relevant and sufficient background in any of the professional or L4 electives may be granted approval to substitute for additional L5 electives. (c) Electives Each plan in the program requires completion of 36 UOC of L4 electives, 30 UOC of postgraduate L5 specialisation courses, and 12 UOC of Engineering and Technical Management courses, which must be selected from the approved list for each plan. (d) MEng Project Students must undertake a 12 UOC project split over 2 sessions in their final year. A project involves an independent investigation at an advanced level by the student and may include research, design, feasibility or other analysis requiring integration of knowledge and evaluation across a range of topics in the area of the specialisation. Work-based projects are encouraged for practising engineers provided they meet the requirements of advanced independent study. Work-based projects must be approved by the program authority prior to commencement of the project. (e) Industrial Training A requirement for the program is the completion of 60 days of Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications related industrial experience, preferably in Australia. Students who have already completed such industrial experience may be granted an exemption. Please see: http://scoff.ee.unsw.edu.au/industrialTraining/industrialTraining (f) Award of Degrees A student who completes the requirements for the degree shall receive at graduation a testamur for the degree of Master of Engineering. (g) Administration of Programs A student's program will be administered by the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the Faculty of Engineering. (h) Enrolment An application to enrol as a candidate for the Masters degree shall be lodged with the Registrar at least two calendar months before the commencement of the session in which enrolment is to begin.
