Program Description

The Master of Safety Science is a graduate program for of study for students with a health and safety background intending to become occupational health and safety professionals. It is the third stage in a fully-articulated sequnce of Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Safety Science.

The program requires 96 units of credit (UoC)and is normally completed in two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study. It is available in on-campus or off-campus learning modes.

Program Structure

Core Courses - 60 UoC
Students may be awarded transfer credit in SAFE6010 or SAFE6110 on the basis of evidence of equivalent knowledge in the curricula covered by these courses in previous undergraduate study.

Students may be granted exemption or transfer credit in SAFE6201, SESC6031, SAFE9101, SESC9301, SAFE9411, SAFE9541 or SESC9751 where they can establish that they have equivalent knowledge in the curricula covered by these courses in previous postgraduate study. Where exemption is granted students will be required to substitute other approved postgraduate courses.

Elective courses - 36 UOC

Students are required to complete 36 UoC of elective courses, chosen from Safety Science electives, or from other courses offered by schools within the University, subject to the approval of both the program authority and the relevant course authority. Students may include up to 12 UoC of project courses within their elective requirement.

The range of electives available in off-campus mode is more restricted than for on-campus delivery.
