Program Description

The Master of Economics program provides advanced training in theoretical and applied aspects of modern economics and econometrics.

There is no mid-year intake for the Master of Economics program. Applicants can only apply to commence Master of Economics studies for Session 1.

Entry to this program requires an academic background in economics.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this program is prepared for a career as a professional economist with advanced technical skills or for further studies in economics or related fields in Australia and abroad.
  • To provide students with knowledge of the major ideas of modern economics and econometrics and to impart a comprehension of these ideas so that they may be properly evaluated and applied.
  • To provide students with the knowledge and technical ability to use economic and econometric models to undertake independent research and to communicate the results of their research.
  • To provide students with the capacity to comprehend and critically evaluate articles appearing in leading economics and econometrics journals so that they can learn new developments and apply them to their research.
  • To provide students with the necessary foundations in economics and econometrics to proceed to a PhD within Australia or abroad and to succeed in the best international programs.

Program Structure

The Master in Economics degree comprises 48 units of credit. Students are required to complete four core courses and four elective courses.
