Stream Outline

This specialisation provides students with advanced study options in Structural Engineering. It is designed to develop skills in analysis and design of steel and concrete structures, with an understanding of modern materials. It is ideally suited for both practising structural engineers and recent graduates planning a career in structural engineering.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students need a recognised four year Bachelor degree in engineering with a minimum 65% average* in one of the following:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Civil Engineering with Architecture
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Naval Engineering
Other disciplines may be considered for entry as determined by the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Stream Structure

MEngSci students must complete a total of 96UOC of courses.

Please note that the availability of the courses may vary from semester to semester and courses may be offered in alternate years.

Electives - 24 UOC

Students may choose any course for which they are eligible to enrol, as electives, including any of the courses listed above.

At least 6 UOC must be taken from the Engineering & Technical Management Courses. For the Structural Engineering specialisation we recommend the following Engineering and Technical management courses:
In addition, students may select any ETM elective in the consolidated Faculty list with approval.

Exemptions or Advanced Standing

Exemptions and advanced standing rules for the stream follow the program rules. A student may apply for exemptions. Students with a four year honours degree (for example in Civil Engineering) may obtain a maximum of 48 UOC of exemptions. Full details are noted on the program handbook page.
