Stream Outline

The MCom (Extension) Entity Planning & Performance extension option takes the Management Accounting specialisation to the next level of the syllabus of CIMA. These 4 additional courses provides knowledge from the viewpoint of the management accountant relating to strategic planning and control, dealing with business risk, performance monitoring and the formulation of financial strategy. The knowledge obtained will develop a higher level of skills required by management accountants.

After completion of the Management Accounting specialisation and the Entity Planning and Performance courses in the MCom (Extension), you are able to proceed to the final level of the CIMA syllabus (the professional competence level). This final level will be administered by CIMA and requires work based practical experience and the successful completion of a case study examination that is based on pre-seen and unseen material.

You would choose to complete the 4 additional courses in the Entity Planning & Performance (Ext-option) to deepen your knowledge of the strategic dimensions of management accounting or to obtain financial knowledge that is highly relevant in the acceleration of your career: management accounting, financial management, general management, entrepreneurial activity or management consultancy.

Stream Structure

Master of Commerce (Extension) students must complete:
  • 2 MCom core courses
  • 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
  • 6 Specialisation courses
  • 4 additional courses
  • 1 Capstone course

Four Required Courses:
If a course has been completed in prior study, you are able to substitute a course from the elective list in the Management Accounting specialisation or choose from the following list:
