Stream Outline

Who should do this stream?

This stream is highly recommended as a foundation for all areas of public health and health management, as contemporary practice across all disciplines requires consideration of the social determinants, incorporation of health in all policies, with attention to meeting the equity gaps and promoting social justice. This is particularly challenging when many state and national policies still reflect and uphold a silo or risk-factor based approach. This course moves students beyond the traditional silo approaches to explore determinants – based health promotion that moves practice beyond risk factors and disease models. It focuses on social understandings of health and a multi-sectoral approach to promoting health through research, practice, policy and advocacy.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion is designed for students who wish to specialise in health promotion, which is reflected in their Testamur. Students must complete 48 units of credit in total as follows:
