Stream Outline
Master of Arts by coursework in Interpreting and Translating Studies is accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) at the level of Professional Translator (both directions) in Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish.
Stream Structure
NAATI accreditation
Students who wish to apply for NAATI accreditation at Professional Translator level in Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian or Spanish must successfully complete the following five core courses and three elective courses (total 48 UOC). In addition, students must successfully complete 75 hours of practicum and achieve 70% in the special NAATI accreditation examination administered in MODL5108.
- MODL5100 Foundations and Principles (6 UOC) - to be taken in first semester of study
- MODL5103 Media Translation (6 UOC)
- MODL5104 Technical Translation (6 UOC)
- MODL5107 Professional Practice (6 UOC)
- MODL5108 Preparation for Accreditation (6 UOC) - to be taken in last semester of study
(Students must choose three elective courses)

Admission Requirements
- have been awarded a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from any recognised tertiary institution at credit level acceptable to the Standing Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) with a credit average (65%);
- demonstrate advanced bilingual proficiency at native or near-native level; or
- have demonstrated satisfactory performance in the aptitude test administered by the Program.
(3) If the Committee is not satisfied with the qualifications submitted by an applicant the Committee may require the applicant to undergo such assessment or carry out such work as it may prescribe before permitting enrolment.
