Database Systems

This major provides specialised education in all aspects of data managment, including database design, database programming and database administration.

Plan Structure

Database Systems majors in program 8508 complete the following:

Core courses

Complete the following four courses:

COMP9021 Principles of Programming (6 UOC)
COMP9024 Data Structures & Algorithms (6 UOC)
COMP9311 Database Systems (6 UOC)
COMP9511 Human Computer Interaction (6 UOC)

Advanced Database Requirement

Complete two courses from the following:

COMP9314 Next Generation Database Systs (6 UOC)
COMP9315 Database Systems Implementat'n (6 UOC)
COMP9316 eCommerce Implementation (6 UOC)
COMP9321 e-Commerce Impl. Infrastruct. (6 UOC)

An exlusion exists between COMP9316 and COMP9321, so students can only choose one of these courses.

Secondary Core Requirement

Complete two courses from the following:

COMP9020 Foundations of Comp. Science (6 UOC)
COMP9331 Computer Networks&Applications (6 UOC)
COMP9414 Artificial Intelligence (6 UOC)
INFS5927 Know. Manage. Systems & Tech. (6 UOC)
INFS5991 Decision Support Systems (6 UOC)

Elective Requirement

Complete four courses from those listed above, or any other COMP for which the pre-requisite has been met.

Project Option

Students may replace three of the above four elective courses with a project provided they have a Distinction average, have obtained the agreement of an academic supervisor, and apply to enrol in their final semester.
