This course provides students with advanced knowledge in Geotechnical disasters in hard rock underground mines. The course is structured to give postgraduate students in depth knowledge in carefully selected case histories of geotechnical disasters in underground mining pointing out the causes, lessons learnt and how similar disasters can be avoided or the impact on safety and productivity minimized. Included in each case history will be steps taken to prevent recurrence, resulting effect on mining regulations, design guidelines and technological advances introduced as part of the lessons learnt.
