Description

This course examines the advance of technology in society, with an emphasis on the drivers of technological change, their alternative trajectories, and the implications for strategy. The course considers the practical application of a range of intuitive, exploratory and normative methods for technology foresight. The course evaluates a range of real world cases in the fields of national security, defence, and the information technology to distil insights about technology foresight. Finally, the course assesses the utility of technology foresight in strategy and planning.

Learning Outcomes

At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the principles of technology foresight;
2. Explain a range of technology foresight approaches and methods; and
3. Explain the integration of technology foresight with strategic planning.

There are TWO assessment items for this course: a series (13, one for each week of teaching) of weekly research abstracts, and a technology assessment. Students must complete both assessment items. There is NO examination for this course.
