Description

Business Law aims to provide an introduction to, and general understanding of, the law in key legal areas applying within a private or public business context. Topics covered in the course include: the Australian legal system, contract law, torts law, competition and consumer law, sale of goods legislation, business entities, intellectual property law and aency law and ethics. The purpose of the course is to equip students with sufficient knowledge of the legal system and law to understand the legal implications of business actions. Legal analysis and problem-solving skills are developed throughout the course. The course is intended for managers who are not lawyers and no prior knowledge of law is required.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:
1. Identify and explain the legal rules, principles and policies affecting the operation of Australian business enterprises;
2. Use legal reasoning techniques to provide solutions to legal problems that arise in hypothetical scenarios affecting consumers and enterprises;
3. Provide concise, accurate, clear and compelling arguments in the discussion and presentation of the results of legal reasoning activities; and
4. Cultivate an awareness of legal issues affecting consumers and businesses.

Main Assignment – written legal advice on a hypothetical scenario 40%
