Description

This course will provide an overview of major underground hard rock mining methods and the geotechnical issues/design parameters/core risks associated with each method. It will cover the major geotechnical design methodologies in use and new developments in this field. Technical content will include excavation performance and design parameters; abutment stress distribution due to mining; regional stability considerations; principles and practice in ground support; fundamentals of rock caving, cave propagation and related cavability assessment; mine seismicity; geotechnical management practices; ground control management plans and geotechnical professional practice and responsibilities.
