Description

This course examines the struggles of Indigenous communities across the world for self-determination, equality and justice. The primary focus will be on Indigenous perspectives on reconciliation and models for Reconciliation that have emerged in Canada, South Africa and Australia. Students will engage in the critical analysis of discourses on Indigenous/non-Indigenous relations in both national and international contexts and consider the outcomes of policies designed to advance the standing of Indigenous people in other countries. This course draws from range of disciplines including history, sociology, comparative studies and politics and will develop skills in critical research and theoretical analysis.
