Description

This course examines the continuing Indigenous Australian struggle for fundamental human rights, focusing on concepts of self-determination, sovereignty and Indigenous rights to land, justice and cultural heritage. Students will be encouraged to develop an informed and independent assessment of the actions of Australian governments under both international law and Australian human rights law in a number of human rights areas particular to Indigenous Australians. Students will also assess contemporary Indigenous actions toward legal, economic and cultural self-determination.
