Description

This course provides the opportunity for candidates to study, in theoretical and practical terms, the way communication occurs in design practice, and to investigate informational relationships between designers, design and the wider community.

Design Communication focuses on creative strategies and conventions used in design thinking, visualisation, prototyping, documentation and presentation. Building upon established foundations in the theory and practice of design, the course develops those skills and understandings to better integrate structures and strategies employed in the design process, thereby enhancing the realisation of design outcomes within particular contexts. Design Communication reflects the integrated and multi-disciplinary nature of contemporary design exemplified in case studies drawn from a wide variety of design fields and practices.

Through project based investigations and critical analysis, candidates explore relationships between the design initiative or brief, the generation of responsive concepts and their creative expression, technological mediation, stakeholder experience, social and environmental impact. Their connectivity is examined in the context of the design profession and associated implications for quality of life and responsible design practice. Candidates will engage in a range of Individual and group work activities where verbal , visual and written interactions contribute to the documentation and communication of design intentions.
