Case Studies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islan - PHCM9634 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description This course requires students to become immersed in active study of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives of health and challenge themselves to intensively engage with a group in synthesising knowledge, share personal and professional understandings, reflect on values and world views of oneself and society, strengthen their listening and communication skills and participate in a transformation learning process. The course activities include completion of Stage 1 of an Indigenous-developed Family Well Being Empowerment Program and four scenarios to assist students to “step inside” Indigenous contexts of health examining issues of pregnancy and childbirth, primary school, adolescence, chronic disease and mental illness and healthy ageing. The course is best taken with PHCM9632 so that students can directly integrate common learnings into the discussions, knowledge sharing and problem solving promoted through this largely student-led course.
