Description

Aims to prepare students for the NAATI Professional Translator Test (both directions) and Professional Interpreter test. It builds on the students’ knowledge of thematic fields and translation & interpreting skills acquired in other courses of MAITS and MACET. Covers fields and areas commonly used in NAATI examinations such as health, education, economics, legal, science and technology, and society. The Translation component includes weekly translation practice in an examination simulated setting. Translation passages reflect text types, genres, length and level of complexity of the NAATI examination in Translation. The Interpreting component includes weekly practice, with dialogues, sight translation and consecutive interpreting passages (with note taking) reflecting the mode and complexity expected in the NAATI examination in Interpreting.
The course will include a component on Translators’ ethics of the profession and social and cultural matters required by the examination.
