Description This course will explore all aspects of modern mining legislation and its impacts on the mining industry and its stakeholders both in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Topics to be covered include in broad terms mine health and safety, mining and the environment, exploration and mining, and miscellaneous issues. Concepts to be covered include duty of care, enabling legislation, safety management systems, the role of risk management, the role of the regulator, mining laws in developing countries, industrial law and other issues. The course is designed for mining industry personnel and/or those involved with the industry who need to be updated in this rapidly changing discipline. An emphasis will be on case studies. The course will be delivered by experienced practitioners from government, legal firms and UNSW.
