Description

An analysis of theories and methods of evaluating human service programs.
Examines the function and purpose of evaluation; approaches to conducting
evaluations; the role of stakeholders in the evaluation process; concern for
the use of the evaluation findings; the relevance of program logic and
theories of program operation; measurement of program outcomes; the
importance placed on program goals; the role of the evaluator and ethical
considerations in conducting an evaluation. Examples will be drawn from
evaluations over a range of human service programs in health, education and
other areas. Students will gain experience in preparing an evaluation
proposal and critically appraising reported evaluations.
