Introduction to Environmental Risk Assessment - SESC9261 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description This course introduces the methods used to quantify human health risks associated with the presence of hazardous chemicals and pathogens in the environment. These risks can be quantified when the following elements are known:-
The source of the chemical/pathogen posing risk/s to human receptors; the fate and transport mechanisms by which a chemical/pathogen moves from the source to the receptors; exposure scenarios; the dose to the receptors. These elements are evaluated during the course. Theoretical risk assessment concepts are illustrated with simple, real-life examples. Software is illustratively used to demonstrate the complexity of the risk assessment process in multimedia and probabilistic frameworks. |
