Description This course covers important thematic areas such as: types, phases and effects of emergencies, conflict and disasters on health, nutrition, disease and mortality; public health and medical responses; refugee camps; psychosocial effects; and co-ordination of donor and aid agencies; and disaster preparedness. The course also includes case studies of recent emergencies, conflict and disasters in: Haiti, Aceh, and Darfur, amongst others. Although the course will not exclude aspects of communicable disease in emergencies, conflict and disasters, this is dealt with in much more detail in PHCM9783. This course will have significant inputs from academic, non-government and international organisations in case studies and important themes in health aspects of emergencies, conflict and disasters.
