The course is available to students in the Master of Architecture and to students in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies; Bachelor of Industrial Design and the Bachelor of Interior Architecture who have successfully completed a minimum of 2 years of their design degree studies. The course commences in week 1 of semester. It provides an opportunity to work in a cross-disciplinary and international environment on the design and fabrication of timber artefacts focusing on the use of Australian timber species. The course is structured in stages, i] material research study and design of an artefact; ii] introductory workshop projects; iii] manufacture of a selection of your final artefact designs from stage [i]; and iv] an international field trip to the Gifu Academy in Japan in late November to exhibit and present the group’s design proposals and manufactured objects. A course journal is to be maintained for the duration of the program. All students will need to have completed a workshop induction program prior to the start of semester.
