Description

The course examines the role of developing countries in the international system and the impact of global politics on development. It investigates the global politics of development through a focus on the agency of developing countries in world politics.
The course will examine tihe following topics:

Competing Perspectives on Development
International Relations Theory and the Developing World
What is the Developing World?
Sovereignty, Weak States and Failed States
Democratization and Governance
Human Rights and the Developing World
Security and Regionalism
Foreign Aid and Development Choices
The Global Trade Regime and Developing Countries
International Production and Development
Sustainable Development
Gender and Development
