Description An introduction to the architecture of Asia with primary focus on India, China and Japan. Aspects of indigenous traditions as well as developments in the 20th century will be examined. Some attention will be given to materials relating to other countries of the region. The approach of the course is thematic. A range of key concepts, significant buildings and cities will be studied; for instance: the role of geometry, the rise of the modern profession of architecture, cross-cultural exchanges, colonialism, conservation and regionalism.
