Description

Aims to develop basic communicative competence in spoken Japanese and to introduce written Japanese. Provides students with basic ability to interact with Japanese in daily life and business situations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should gain:
  • An understanding of Japanese communication style in daily life as well as in a business situation
  • Fundamental Japanese communication skills in both linguistic and paralinguistic aspects
  • An understanding of the Japanese writing system, and the ability to read and write simple sentences
  • An ability to identify cultural differences between Japan and Australia/students' country of origin.

  • Interaction tests - 20%
  • Dictation - 30%
  • Listening tests - 10%
  • Homework - 10%
  • Final exam - 20%
  • Participation - 10%
