Description

How cognitive structures are organised into a coherent architecture and how that architecture allows human beings to learn, think, reason and solve problems. The major concepts methods, and research findings which have been produced over the last half century, along with relevant applications.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course students are expected to:
  • Understand the complex mental processes that underlie human thought
  • Be able to present a unified cognitive framework that explains how we learn, think, reason and solve problems
  • Discuss how human cognitive structures may have evolved
  • Identify, at a general level, the implications of our understanding of human cognitive architecture for teaching and instruction.

Assessment

  • Class feedback task - 10%
  • Seminar presentation - 10%
  • Essay - 80%
