Description

Introduces very recent interpreting theories and practices with a focus on plan-based consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Students are expected to complete a range of projects including: simulated public speech/interpretation, demonstration of skills acquired and purposeful drillings etc. The weekly workshops will provide a forum for discussion of theoretical, technical and ethical issues and for report of learning progress.

Assumed knowledge: Third-year level proficiency in Chinese.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students should be able to gain:

  • Critical review writing - 20%
  • Oral presentation (5 minutes) - 10%
  • Participation - 10%
  • Test - 30%
  • Continuous assessment (Public speaking and interpreting, demonstration and report of learning) - 30% or
  • Research project - 30%
