Description

This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in the core course BENV1242 Computer Aided Design, developing a deeper understanding of the technology of building information modelling (BIM) with particular emphasis on modelling parametric building components (such as fittings and fixtures, furniture, facade panels, or any class of object that can be modelled as parametric variations of a common type). Expected learning outcomes are: understanding the scope of information required to define components; ability to model products inclusive of all required information; and the issues associated with sharing such component data between applications. The course deliberately employs a different BIM tool to the one used in the core introductory course in order to broaden the skill base of students. The course aims to provide professional level competence in the use of this developing technology at a time when the building industry is moving strongly in that direction. Delivery is through lectures and computer lab classes. Assessment is by means of practical exercises using a range of BIM tools.
