Description This course will provide candidates with the opportunity to study the nature and role of design management in the development of a design culture. Attention will be paid to the analysis and application of design management processes to the notion of design cultures as a management goal in both commercial and institutional environments; study of the management of new technologies, materials and services; management of research and development, planning models and techniques, predictive models; research into the role of design management principles in the development of a design consciousness as an integral part of responsible design and manufacture in the Australian context. Additionally attention will be paid to a critical analysis of design practice in both consultant and design department situations; comparative analysis of design management concepts and economic and business concepts in research and design development; analysis and application of psycho/social concepts in the development of design project co-ordination models.
