Description This course introduces the principles of conservation and illustrates its role as an integrated component of collections management. It examines the physical nature of works of art and the interactions with their environment. The range of responses of conservation to collections is discussed as well as conservation's relationship with an institution's custodial responsibilities and public programs. Conservators and registrars at selected Sydney institutions are visited in order to facilitate a comparative overview of conservation practice.
