Description

A study of Australia's place in the world. Strategic, diplomatic, economic, historical and legal approaches.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students should be able to participate in debates around foreign policy, and in particular:
  • Question and challenge both supporters and opponents of government policy
  • Articulate the possible consequences of Australian government actions, attitudes, statements and policies, as well as those of other states and international bodies
  • Suggest alternative approaches to foreign affairs problems
  • Have the capacity to research any foreign policy issue that arises and present ideas in a convincing manner, both verbally and in writing.

Learning Outcomes

  • Major research essay (3500 words) - 50%
  • End of semester examination - 35%
  • Seminar participation - 15%
