Description Paediatric Sports Medicine involves the studying of the child athlete for prevention and management of injury and illness. The subject commences with consideration of normal physiology of growth and development and expected responses to training. Management of acute and overuse injuries is studied, followed by the effects of intense training and exercise and early profiling / specialisation. Exercise in chronic illness states is covered, including its use as an adjunct to therapy. Subsequent modules include the issues surrounding drugs in sport and ADHD, management of childhood obesity, consideration of the benefits and risks of children's sport and finally, important medicolegal issues.
