Description In this course we examine theories, evidence and approaches centred on managing change. We explore contemporary management issues and challenges facing those who are responsible, now or in the future, for the managerial performance of health service organisations. We attempt in this course to bridge the theory - practice divide. A key concern is to examine various change management tools, techniques and ideas and assess their usefulness. Specific topics examined include: some psychological aspects of management; organisational aspects of change; cultural change; systems change; networks; restructuring; communication; continuous improvement; and managing change effectively. Part of the course is devoted to providing insights into students' own managerial style. A major theme is to develop the ability to generate improved solutions to managerial problems and to manage change more strategically.
