Description This course provides an introduction to a range of issues that influence health of the elderly. The course commences with a historical overview leading into a series of lectures by experts in their field. The topics covered include: Biology of Ageing; Important Medical Conditions in Old Age; Psychiatry of Old Age, including the impact of dementia on the health and welfare system of Australia and risk factors for depression in the elderly; Osteoporosis; Diabetes and other Endocrine Disorders; Falls; Stroke; Rehabilitation and Delivery of Support Services; Geriatric Rehabilitation; Continence & Incontinence; Palliative Care; Ageing Across Cultures; Promoting Wellbeing.
