Description

Reviews research in music psychology over the last fifteen years and examines current conflicts, controversies and issues in order to develop informed approaches to music instruction, administration, supervision and evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

This course is an introduction to research in psychological studies of music teaching and learning. At the end of the course students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the current state of psychological research in music teaching and learning
  • Read published research papers with understanding of the concepts, relevance of the research question, and methodology utilised
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of statistical inference and descriptive statistics
  • Develop the outlines of a research study which coincides with their own specific interests
  • Write coherently, succinctly, and use appropriate terminology
  • Demonstrate some understanding of the reason for international current interest in the social psychology of teaching and learning.
