Management consulting is one of the fastest growing professional service industries in the world today. Management consultancies also have an increasing impact upon the contemporary practice of management and corporate transformation. This course examines the role and impact of the international management consulting industry on organisational transformation and the management of human resources in both Australian and overseas contexts. It examines consulting firms as sources of knowledge and expertise and their role in the structure of
national and international management. Key themes include; contemporary trends in global management consulting; critical and theoretical assessments of the growth of management consulting; the role of consultancies in the international diffusion of management practice; consulting contributions to management fashion; management consultancies as knowledge intensive firms; consultant-client relationships and the nature of consulting expertise; the management of human resources within consulting firms; and case studies of consulting led organisational change.
