Description

Provides a detailed examination of the English phonological system and the features of conversational English. Examines pedagogical strategies for encouraging learner participation, and develops skills in the design, adaptation, presentation, and evaluation of materials for teaching Spoken English.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the phonological features of the English Language
  • Explain the characteristics of spoken discourse and apply current findings from discourse analysis to the selection of materials and organisation of spoken English teaching programs
  • Critically analyse and evaluate methods of teaching oral communication and to draw consequences for their own practice
  • Demonstrate pedagogical strategies for encouraging learner participation in the classroom
  • Design, adapt, present and evaluate materials for teaching spoken English.
