Description

The principles and practice of language testing and assessment and of language teaching program evaluation with a special focus on TESOL. Includes practical work in the construction of tests and other assessment instruments and in the design of evaluation tools.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should gain a grounding in language testing that will enable students to participate in the development and administration of tests in an educational institution setting. More specifically, they should be able to:

Evaluate language tests critically
Demonstrate a critical awareness of the power of language tests
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and terminology involved in language teaching
Demonstrate an understanding of the major trends in language testing, including their identifying features, strengths and weaknesses
Differentiate among different types of language test.
