Description

This course provides a comprehensive coverage of the mechanisms for achieving administrative justice, including systemic issues such as access and the structuring of review and scrutiny mechanisms. The topics include: the public policy and ethical dimensions of administrative justice; access issues such as language and culture, and legal assistance; access to information through FOI and privacy issues; reasons; assessing the effectiveness of review mechanisms including internal review, determinative versus advisory review, and external review; and the tribunal system. The course will be run with a semi-intensive structure, including six evening classes, two half day classes, a full day seminar, and a tribunal visit. The course will draw on expert and practitioner presentations.
