Description

Explores contemporary theory and practice in the evaluation of educational programs. Introduces students to the relationships between program development and evaluation by providing a conceptual overview of evaluation theory and examination of the practical processes involved in the evaluation of educational programs.

Note: This course may be taken as an elective in the Master of Educational Administration program.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Define the concept of evaluation
  • Describe the history of evaluation
  • Categorise and critically appraise different theoretical models of evaluation
  • Identify the forms of evaluation adopted by evaluators
  • Describe the issues involved in evaluation practice
  • Explain the relationship between evaluation, program planning and implementation
  • Initiate and plan an evaluation using a systematic framework
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical guidelines for conducting evaluations.

Assessment

  • Oral presentation - 20%
  • Minor assignment - 20%
  • Major assignment - 60%
