Description

This course on Superannuation Law and Compliance seeks to familiarise students with the key issues currently shaping the superannuation industry. Beginning with an analysis of the legislative and political emergence of superannuation as the principal instrument of national savings and retirement policy, the course will proceed to inform students of the mechanisms used to ensure that the system functions soundly and efficiently. Amongst the topics included are the role of the Superannuation Industry Supervision (SIS) Regulations, especially disclosure rules and the duties of trustees. The course also examines the roles of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority. The course will also deal with dispute resolution and the function of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal. Finally the course will look at some of the emerging issues in superannuation law such as choice of fund and investment, ethical investment and the potential for future synergies with other self funded schemes such as health insurance, life insurance and income protection.
