A Message from the Dean
Welcome to UNSW Medicine, Australia's leading undergraduate medical school.
Students in our diverse medical faculty come from many different backgrounds and countries, but all have a common purpose – to become outstanding doctors and researchers. Our world-class, innovative teaching will help them achieve that goal.
Right from the start of your medical training you will gain clinical experience in some of Australia’s most highly regarded hospitals. You will work with some of the country’s leading medical researchers, and learn from our award-winning teachers in a collegial environment.
UNSW Australia takes a proactive and pioneering approach to medical education offering Australia’s first undergraduate-entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. This qualification is internationally recognised and reflects the fact that our students study at a level equivalent to a postgraduate degree.
Our six-year program is unique in that it offers the opportunity to spend a year pursuing an Independent Learning Project, a body of research that will develop you into an independent thinker and equip you with the skills of analysis and critical thought to conduct research throughout your career.
We aim to produce doctors who not only know the basics of the clinical sciences and the practice of medicine, but who understand the cultural and social aspects of health and disease, who can communicate effectively with colleagues and patients, and who are able to reflect on their practice and continually strive for perfection.
Above all, we pride ourselves on our strong sense of community at UNSW Medicine. The purpose of our research and teaching is to make a lasting difference to the community we serve. I look forward to welcoming you to Australia’s most prestigious undergraduate program.
