Stream Outline
THIS STREAM IS FOR STUDENTS COMMENCING FROM 2016.
The Music Studies minor examines music as a manifestation of culture and society, as an intellectual product and as a specific reflection of experience. Musicological methodologies are central to the disciplinary study of music. The minor in Music Studies enables you to develop your musicianship, musical skills and contextual understanding of music in preparation for professional work in music areas as diverse as broadcasting, recording, arts administration and advocacy, concert planning, and music and general arts journalism.

Stream Learning Outcomes
You should achieve the following learning outcomes upon the successful completion of the stream:
- Explain the relationship between various musics and their historical, social , cultural and technological contexts
- Demonstrate knowledge of the materials, structures and processes of music
- Demonstrate executant musical skill through individual and/or ensemble performance
Stream Structure
If you wish to gain a minor stream in Music Studies you must complete 24 units of credit including 12 UOC of core courses at Level 1, 6 UOC at Level 2 and 6 UOC at Level 3.
Level 1
You must complete the following Level 1 core courses:
- MUSC1602 M&S 1 (6 UOC)
- MUSC1703 Per Lab 1 (BA) (6 UOC)
Level 2
You must complete 6 UOC from the following:
- MUSC1603 M&S2 (6 UOC)
- MUSC1604 Western Music: a Panorama (6 UOC)
- MUSC1706 Per Lab 2 (BA) (6 UOC)
- MUSC2116 World Music (6 UOC)
Level 3
You must complete 6 UOC from the following:
- MUSC2113 Film Music (6 UOC)
- MUSC2118 Music in Bali (6 UOC)
- MUSC2804 Investigating Music (6 UOC)
- MUSC3104 Contemplating Jazz (6 UOC)
- MUSC3105 Psychology of Music (6 UOC)
- MUSC3162 Twentieth Century Music (6 UOC)
