Description

The course focuses on the key geoscience concepts that underpin oil and gas field development and reservoir management. A profitable development of an oil or gas field starts with a good understanding of the subsurface. Efficient field development must take into account simultaneously the constraints in well drilling, production scheme, equipment, and reservoir management. This requires:
  • A broad knowledge base of specific techniques and technologies,
  • As well as the ability to integrate and communicate multidisciplinary geological data.
Though a problem-based approach the petroleum engineering students are exposed to situations commonly encountered in professional practice that reflect the scope and complexity of petroleum geology problems. The knowledge acquired during this course will be useful to the petroleum engineering graduates at all stages of their petroleum engineering career. It will also help them to form synergy with development geologist and petroleum geophysicists. Field examples and case studies demonstrate the importance of integrated geologic and engineering studies in developing effective field development strategies for geologically complex reservoirs.
