Description

This course introduces students to contemporary issues related to critical enquiry into design. Through exploration of different design approaches, processes and frameworks, students are given a greater understanding of the designer's role in society as well as to provide a broad context for the analysis of design outcomes and other products. Aesthetic values and cultural and economic considerations will be explored as well as some well established design theories such as emotional design and product semantics. The subject is taught in a studio setting, and will include formal lectures and seminar style discussions, as well as design projects to be undertaken in class.
